Tesla Cybertruck loses to competitors and loses half of sales in a year
In the second quarter of 2025, the Tesla Cybertruck suffered a major blow: sales fell to 4,306 units, which is 50% less than in the same period last year, and 32% compared to the first quarter of 2025. At the same time, the Cybertruck loses not only to the segment leader - the Ford F-150 Lightning (5,842 units), but also to the GMC Hummer EV, which sold a total of 4,508 pickups and SUVs, bypassing Elon Musk's products.
From hype to failure
At its presentation in 2019, Tesla caused a sensation with its radical design: sharp shapes, steel panels, futuristic look. They promised productivity: 250,000 cars produced annually and more than a million pre-orders. But reality turned out to be harsh. In 2024, Tesla sold just over 41,000 Cybertrucks. In the first half of 2025, deliveries fell to 10,712 units - 7% less than in the same period last year (11,588).
Experts from Cox Automotive emphasize: this is the worst quarterly result that the Cybertruck has had since its mass market launch. Even the Rivian R1T, despite a 47% drop, looks relatively stable - 1,752 units sold.
Technical issues and high price
The reasons for the decline are not only in the numbers. The Cybertruck faces technical difficulties: poorly fitting panels, a large turning radius, and especially a significant decrease in range under load. In addition, the starting price of $39,000 has increased to $100,000, which has significantly repelled potential buyers.
